2 mufflers???

2 mufflers???

i just recently got a 99 x sport and was looking at he exhuast system and i noticed that after the muffler there was something that looks like a second muffler. i was just wondering what this is and what it does

Perhaps a resonator. Was it like .5-1 inch larger then the pipe itself?

Yep, its a resonator. Odd that its AFTER the muffler. Usually I've seen them between the last cat and the muffler. It functions to kinda "squish" all the exhaust pulses together even more to quiet up the exhaust and make it more "peaceful". Doesn't hurt performance a ton, but when you get your exhaust done...say bye bye

i have been considering all options for a new exhaust system, but my selection is limited because of cost. if i jsut cut the resonator off right behind the muffler would it improve hte sound on the exhaust? i only ask this because i cant hear it at all now and that bothers me, but because of my parents i cannot run it with glasspacks or just run it with cats.
