Just a wild idea that popped into my head as I look at my Ford Super Duty screen backdrop. I would like to see Ford put out a Super Ranger to look like the big Super Duty and be offered with the 4.9 L (300 cid) straight six or a torquey V-8 (351 ???? :7 ). It also could be a bit roomier than the standard ranger--maybe even a Dodge Dakota challenger!
I think a mid size truck from Ford is a great idea. When I bought my Ranger I thought it would be a perfect size, but it always seems to be just a little too small. I don't want a full size because I know that is over kill for what I do, but I don't want to buy a Dakota because of its reliability problems (and gas consumption). Once the Tundra came out I always thought it would be my next truck (as long as I could get a used one at a descent price - they are too expensive new!), but if Ford had a reasonably priced mid size by then I would definately consider it.
If Ford did a Super Ranger it likely would come with the 4.2 V6 and hopefully optional 4.6 V8, though I always would prefer a straight six. It definitely should have a manual, though manual trannys seem to be getting phased out (as I understand you haven't been able to get a manual in a full-sized Ford van for several years). So now all we have to do is put bugs in the ears of the right people at Ford (much to yak's dismay--though they also should and would keep the current ranger for folks who want modern, car-like styling).
i like the current styling of the ranger and i figure the super duty look would be wierd on a truck that small. maybe the slightly rounder look of the f-150 cause it's still pretty close.
