Angry "NEW" turn signal switch......

Ok, anyone buy one of these lately???

Ya, great.....I hope yours was better than mine....

Man, talking about . How's that saying go..."nothing like a man with faulty car parts..." (or something like that..LOL!)

The story so far.....

I order this "new" switch for my '67 F100. Mine has been ailing for the two years I've owned this truck. I finally broke down and got the switch($70) and went to install it last night. I pulled the steering wheel, disconnected the pins from plugs under the dash and pulled old switch out. I then fished the new wires down the column(that's a trick without pulling the hub off top of column) and then installed screws to retain switch. Great, now just put wheel on and try'r out WRONG!!!! Luckily I wanted to install turn signal arm first before putting wheel back on. I couldn't get it to start in threads, NOPE, NADA, NOT happening. I tried standing on one leg, sitting on seat, patting head/rubbing stomach...that arm was NOT going to start. It would just jam sideways and stop. After MUCH unmentionable discussion(that the neighbors would probably atest too) I pulled it apart and examined the "new" switch. Apparently THREADS are an option . Well complete threads anyway . I then had to put it all back together with old switch so I could drive it .

I brought "new" switch to work with me so that I could use a 1/4"-28 tap to properly install THREADS in "new" switch . Can you FEEL the love . Luckily I work at a machine shop, so taps are easy to come by.

I'm usually pretty easy to please.........but come on!!!
Now, I could call the place, complain, send it back, wait for another one, etc. Why, I want it fixed now and I have the capabilities to make it work.

Just needed to vent..............
Word to the wise....check all new parts for completeness BEFORE tearing anything apart. Nothing worse than having to do it twice because someone else screwed up. It's bad enough when I screw it up

Can ya tell us who sold you that part? We might want to avoid that type of "fun" and properly reward them for their quality control efforts..

replacement parts don't fit?

Freightrain, quality control in the automotive replacement industry is the craps over the years. Made in Mexico. Hell Ford installs a reman a clutch in brand new Mustang that had only 1,400 miles. I saw it with my friends 2002 and the mechanic (a lifetime friend) called us about it before he installed. After the smoke settled Ford installed brand new parts. A rare moment were an attorney was our friend. Carl....o&o>.......

Got my part at N. P. D. ... it was the right part... but before I switched out the switch ... I just removed the end plug of the switch on the truck and and inserted the "pins" in the appropriate locations of the pig tail... WAHLA, it was not the switch! I traced my problem to a faultly fuse block... current was not passing through a fuse... (it wasn't broken though!)
Well, anyhow, glad you solved your problem.

It was LMC. I've had good luck with most of the stuff from them for the most part. The switch looked to be nice quality...and works great now that it's installed.

It just really caught me off guard and really turned my crank when I went thru the work to fish the wires to only find I had to do it AGAIN once I rectified the problem.

I did buy one of the "replacement" rear e-brake cables...and it was a joke. Ended up finding a real replacement from local Napa. LMC had this "adjustable" version that had hose clamps holding it. It would collapse everytime you pressed the brake pedal. Junk. That has been the only two things I have had problems with. All in all, not bad. I guess I got that one in a thousand that was not up to specs.

I got one from LMC about a month ago for my 72 for $50. Works great.

Wonder why yours was $70?

The switch should have had threads. You just happened to get a bad one. Mine was threaded. But I have been through this kind of thing. You go buy a part, take apart your vehicle, install the part and then find out that you have to do it all over again because the part was bad. I remember it with a water pump. The stupid impeller was too thick and scraped on the block. It was a difficult job too which made doing it twice a real pain in the rear.

Freight... couldn't you have driven it to work and threaded the switch in the truck?
You could resort to the old arm-out-the-window turn signals for the short drive to the shop
