Ok heres another problem of a long list of problems im having with this 300. I got a new cam and gears. Switched out the composite for the metal gear. Anyways, ive put the crank gear on as far as i can tap it, and i have heated and tapped on the cam gear but , its sitting about 1/8" to far back and isnt lining up. Also with it sitting there i still have 3/16" of play in the cam itself. Am I missing something or forgotten anything. All I did was put in new cam, thrust plate , then gear . I really need to figure this out, b/c this truck has to be fixed asap.
Well Ill answer my own question here, I forgot that there was a spacer on the other cam. Ill mark this down as a dumb moment. Now my next problem is, ive assembled it all, and it will turn over but wont start. Has fire , and tried to fire a few times but no go....
carb? efi? i assume EFI since u said composite cam gear. since u said it does have spark (i would double check) check the fuel pressure. EFI is 45-60 PSI...
Actually its carb. 1bbl Its an 81' model. Some one has switched it to a points type dizzy. I didnt think it was supposed to be like that since my other 81 Ford doesnt have a points type.

The last year for points was 1974, I think.
There are conversion kits that will replace the points. I bought an el cheapo dizzy off of Ebay, tried to use it with a MSD Blaster 2 coil and got real efficient at changing out burnt points.
I bought a Pertronix ignitor points replacement kit and am very happy with the results.
