timing

i have a 80 model mustang and i blew the timing belt. does anyone know where the timing marks should be to put a new belt on. the motor is a 2.3

timing

Fordz, turn the crankshaft to TDC. Turn the auxiliary shaft so the dist rotor is pointing to the number 1 cylinder on the cap. Turn the cam sprocket to line up the mark with the timing pointer on the engine. If there are 3 marks on the pointer, line the sprocket mark up with the center one. (The other marks are for 2 degrees advance and retard on the cam.)

Then install the belt. Turn the engine over by hand about 2 times, and recheck the mark alignment. Engine rotation is clockwise as viewed from the front. Do not turn it backward, or the belt might slip a cog.
