Broken Rear Heater Quick Connect

The quick connect on the heater hose between the rear heater control valve and the heater core of my 92 extended AWD self disconnected tonight. Fortunately with the heater valve closed, the leak was slow enough that I could drive home. I only need to drive a couple of miles to work and then a few more to the dealer to get parts. I'm keeping a close eye on the water level and 2+gallons of water in the car.

From reading heater core posts, it sounds like there is a kit to re-connect the connector. Is it only available from Ford?

Or, is a more prudent option to cut off the quick connect add a male-male adapter to the remaining hose end and then standard heater hose to the valve?

I need to repair this before my 200 mile drive home Friday night.

Thank you all in advance for sharing your knowledge and opinions.

"help!" parts makes a replacement quick connect. I saw it yesterday at the parts store.

also, if you can get to both ends... you can use a regular hose clamp. when we did my heater core (front) we got ticked and just YANKED the hoses off and snapped the connectors. the new core had raw tube ends, so we just clamped the hose to them.

so those buggers do come off, im just not sure how.

good luck!

I was at a couple of parts store last night, and they had listings for the kit, but neither had the item in stock.

Upon examination in the light this morning, it appears that the cage on the female end of the hose is cracked, and the other end of the hose is inside the car with the auxiliary heater core. My decision may be made for me... use the splice until I get home and then determine whether to replace the host when I get home this weekend.
