83 351W Will Not Start
At this time I also put in a new timing set (chain and gears).
I wired the DS II module into the system. (If anyone has any questions how I did this let me know). This is the voltages I have: (per my multimeter tester) red wire into module: 12.3V @ "run" 7.3V @ "start".; white wire into module: 0(zero)V @ "run" 11.1V @ "start"; Coil (used original coil) 11.2V @ start 7V @ "run".
I am getting spark to the plugs (verified visually only by a bright white spark) I don't know how to test this directly.
TDC on compression stroke was measured with thumb in #1 spark plug hole and cranking engine. When it was close I poked a pen down the spark plug hole and turned crank by hand tool to get exact TDC. (I checked this three times to make sure i was on compression stroke and not exhaust stroke)
I then installed the distributor making sure that the rotor ended up pointing to the #1 terminal on the dist. cap. I routed this wire to the #1 piston cylinder, which according to my manual is the front left cylinder (as looking at the engine from the front bumper). I then routed the remaining wires in the 137263481 firing oder (going counter clockwise on dist cap). Cylinder numbers are 1,2,3,4 on left bank of engine and 5,6,7,8, on right bank.
OK...after hooking everything up here is what it is doing: Not trying to start, not hitting at all. Gas is getting into the carb and into the intake but no hits. When I spray starter fluid into the carb it still does not hit but the engine becomes harder to spin and a little white smokey puffs come out the headers (no pipes yet). Gas is definitely getting into the intake from the carb. However even after continual pumping of accelerator when I check the plugs they are not wet only very slightly smell like gas and are dry.
I don't understand what is going on and would appreciate any knowledgeable persons HELP.
One other note: the timing chain was an Edelbrock Double roller and the gears were lined up per the instructions.
Turn the rotor 180 degrees and I bet it fires right up. Been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
You have fire, you have gas, it has to be the timing of the two unless your timing itself is WAAAAAY off and I seriously doubt it. It would at least try, sputter, kick back or something. I bet a cola you are 180 out right now.

This site is awsum!!...all of you guys are what makes it so..got ALL my info on this conversion from here. Took a LOT of digging....if anyone needs to convert over a EEC-III to reg carb I'll be more than happy to walk them through it.....wiring into existing harness..etc.
I'm not finished doctoring this truck back to life...still need to do the things Franklin briefly mentioned in another post: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=73427
pcv valve
vacuum advance on the dist
vacuum to the tranny(if it's an automatic)
vacuum to the brake booster
hooking up the throttle linkage + tranny linkage
more stuff I can't think of right now.
Guys ...might need your help on these also...
I will stay on this same post so anyone that does this conversion will have it all together.
