I have been a loyal Ford customer for 12 years now ( I am only 30). I have been through two Ford rangers One F150 and now my 6.0 SD. Back in January of 2003 I purchased my 6.0 ( I had to have it). Now with 35,456 miles on the truck I find it in the shop for the 16th time. Now mind you I love this truck when it runs, but when it leaves me and my 30Ft TT on the side of the road I just want to scream. I talked to customer service last Wednesday and told them what the problem was and that I was not satisfied with the quality of my truck. They told me to take it in to the servicing dealer to have the problems fixed (turbo hose, mirrors and carrier bearing). They also told me that I would be contacted by the local rep with in 5 days. No surprise it has been 5 days and I still do not have my truck or have I gotten a call form Ford.
My question is what would you do, I don’t feel like this 6.0 will last me the 150,000 that I expected. I don’t want to loose money on a trade in. I don’t qualify for the 3 times broken rule for the lemon law.
The worst thing about this is most of my friends are Chevy fans so the non stop taunting is getting old. Heck, I think even my wife wants me to trade it in for a Chevy.
It was in for the turbo hose twice, mirrors twice, ICP sensor twice, countless re flashes, rust on the tale gate…… you get the picture. It seems like I have not hit that magic number of three. That and the fact that I have passed the 16,000 mile clause.

Help me out here.
would you list out the issues with detail what the dealer has done. What is the engine build date?
I would document everything carefully. What does the service manager at your dealer say? I would detail all my information sit down with the service manager and let him know what you want done.
Unfortunately I only have the print out of the last 9 times it has been in the shop (not counting that it is in now), and that only dates back to 9-11-03. I am not sure what happened to the rest on the print out. And I did not think that I would be wanting to send this truck back so I did not take good notes. Remember I really do like my truck when it is running.
This is what is on the print out. It is 3 pages so I will summarize.
09-11-03 eng runs rough (re flash)
09-29-03 CD radio will not turn on (replace radio)
10-10-03 03T02B recall
01-02-04 Customer states oil is leaking by cooler (cleaned turbo hose re installed)
02-10-04 Customer states engine cuts out at 3,000 rpm (replace ICP Sensor)
06-07-04 Cust states turbo hose blew off , coolant leaking out of reservoir cap (replace lower turbo hose, replace radiator cap)
06-14-04 rust on tailgate (refinished spot)
08-05-04 04S15 Recall
10-12-04 Trans shifting improperly ( recall)
As far as the build date of the engine I have no clue. I know that the truck was built in Dec of 2002
I understand that OASIS only keeps a year of info. Did you keep all your invoices from the dealer each time you took it in? You should keep a log. That way you have a record of the history of the truck. Information is strength in dealing with the dealer and Ford.
I know that the truck was built in Dec of 2002
Hmmmmm.......that probably means your engine was built in either late october of 2002, sometime in November, or at the latest early December. Because the sticker on my driver side door says that my X was built in October of 2000. But the engine itself was built a month before in September of 2000. So it is probably safe to assume that your engine was built in around late October to mid November.
Most of the time I went in to the dealer I would not get any paper work with the truck they told me that they would mail it to me but never did. As far as records hind sight is 20/20, I know better now. I wish I could check the build date of my engine however the truck is still in the shop. I am hoping to get it back today.
I work on computers for a living, you would think that I would have a program to track service of my truck¡K¡K.but that would be too easyƒº
Finally got my truck back today, all told they changed the whole down tube of the turbo, the carrier bearing, both mirrors, and a solenoid on the trans. Let’s hope this takes care of it all.
Oh and I looked on the valve cover of the engine and found that it was built 30 Dec 2002. Which is odd because the truck was bought Jan 18 2003.
O-well I will never under stand how they do time at FMC.
I am just happy to have my truck back and not be in that tin can of a rental.
