Question Mechanical or electrical gauges?

Another thread brought up a question in my mind: which is better; mechanical or electrical gauges?

Advantages I can see for mechanical gauge would be:
1. Will read even when power is off (tranny & oil temp)
2. Is not subject to blowing fuses or short circuiting
3. Less expensive
4. Direct reading, no sending unit needed

On the other hand, electrical gauges:
1. Much easier to route wires that tubing
2. All gauges can be electrical units

Disadvantages of mechanical:
1. big mess if tubing breaks or leaks
Disadvantage of electrical:
1. Two units to troubleshoot if something is wrong (sender and gauge)

So what else can you guys add? Anyone installing gauges might find the information useful.

the tree most popular gauges are pyro(eletc.) tranny temp(elect.) and boost(mech.) and that is the only configuration i have ever seen them in.
