Unhappy Performance minded

I have a mean street 302 that has been giving me a big headache recently. I was headed home from the girlfriends house and I decided to pucker the front end up a bit. When I did the truck did not make any loud noise that I recall, but after I got off of the gas to gain traction it ran like crap. I had to limp it back home. It sounded like a four cylinder. I was so ashamed. I shut it off and let it sit overnight and cranked it the next day and it idled fine from the get go, but then when I hit the gas it idled down dastically like it was running on four cylinders again. When you give it the gas it cracks and pops in higher rpm. And the motor will not actually rev until I have applied a good dose of gas. I have a hei distributor that is adapted to fit the ford with a rev limiter, all brand new, I relaced the module and coil just to be on the safe side, and still the same kitten purrr. It has new plugs, new everything come to mention. I was thinking that perhaps I injured a valve seat or two. Any advice would be most appreciative.

Thanks a desperate owner

Sounds like a lean condition maybe, a large vacuum leak perhaps.

Sounds like a fuel problem -check fuel pump or filter or trash stopping up carb. Could possible be back pressure on exhaust - stopped up cat converter. Could be something wrong with stator in distributer- GM HEI distributers sometimes break one of the wires on the stator and every time the vacumn advance rotates the plate the wire flexes and breaks contact causing a bad surging condition
