Hello all. I have a rather interesting qouestion. I have a 78 Bronco XLT with a 400. When I am DRIVING at low RPM, I hear a distinct clicking noise. It only happens when I am driving. It dose not sound like a rod. When I increase speed, i can still hear it. But when I have it in park, and rev it a lil bit, I do not hear it at all. That is why I dont think it is a rod knockin. I think that it may that hubs are not completley disengauging. I hear it distinctly on the driver side front. Any thoughts or suggestions? I do realize that this is a broad question but any help would appreciated.
Also, my oil pressure is great. I have a high volume oil pump and my pressure is always well above the center of the guage.
I have an 86 with an efi 302 and I have a similar "knocking" sound. My mechanic thinks mine is an exhaust leak too, but I swear it sounds like a rod. Is that possible?
It make be a rod or a sticking valve, but not as bad as you think. Some only make the noise when the engine is under load.
As for the exhaust leak sounding like a rod, yes it can happen, Depending on the size of the leak, it can be more of a "popping" sound and make it seem like a rod.
