vin codes??
on the 73 f100, what will the VIN code be for a 390 engine? and also which character do i look at, 4th, or 8th? i really only want the truck if its a 390, a 360 seems less performance orientated. what is the first year for a 390? 1963?

I beleive on the 73, the 4th digit is the engine code. If memory serves right, "H" is the 390 and "Y" is the 360. I think 60 was the first year for the 390, but they were not put into trucks until 1968/69. My suggestion is to perform the stroke test on the motor regardless of what you are being told or believe it to be, remember, they all look the same from the outside...
