I've been wanting to buy a F250 diesel for about as long as I can remember, but two weeks ago, I got the "green" light from my better half to go ahead and get a truck. I have waffled (almost as much as Kerry) between the Ford and Dodge (I can get a friends/family discount for the Dodge), but my heart pumps Oval Blue and I'm going to get the F250.
I was going to buy a new truck, but I decided to buy a used F250 (03 or 04) Crew Cab, 4x4, Auto. I'm almost sick of looking at Autotrader because most of the dealers have listed their INFLATED prices (I've seen 04 priced at close to what I could buy an new 05 w/the same options) and I don't have all the time in the world wanting to weed through the crap. From what I have seen, most of the 04 pricing has been between $40k to 33k (some with high miles mixed in).
With all that said, my question is: If I could buy an 05 for around $41k, how much is "reasonable" for an 03 or 04? I have even seen a few used 05 models (one at $37k w/5k miles) but I think I want to stay with the older models because I'm trying to stay away from paying over $35k. I might off-base so please don't flame me too bad.
Any comments, suggestions, or "market" report info would be greatly appreciated!
I would buy an 05. No way in hell an 03. Only an 04 made after April. Try kbb.com to get prices. The 05 is much better with the new 4x4 front end. You should be able to buy on at invoice. Plus there is $1000 rebate and if you sign up for AQHA you can get $500 more off if you can wait 30 days.
The 'bad' has to do with the first run of the new 6.0 that had issues that had been worked out by about May '04. I would go with the 05 with 5K for 37K and work a few more dollars out of the deal. It saves you the depreciation hit of a brand new one. I assume it is a dealer demo? I have purchased every demo I have come across (in the models I was shopping for) with no problems and that includes an S2000.
