I have read and heard that you can get 1-2" or more from cranking up your torsion bars. I have a 2000 Ranger 4x4 Off-Road. When I went to crank up my torsion bars, I only got about 1/2" of extra clearance. I have noticed much more responsive road handling in the front end though, and the front end seems more stiff. If you look at my bolts, I pretty much cranked them halfway between the stock position and full turn, this was approx. 7 complete rotations. Does anyone else have any suggestions about how to do this, or if I have over done the cranking? Any suggestions would be helpfull.
Matt,
I have an '01 Edge and cranked those puppies as far as they'd go. It did give me almost 2 extra inches so that I could fit my 31's under there. Although I have heard two different suggestions on whether or not the alignment will have to be redone. I haven't done mine yet coz of the price but I did all my mods and got wheels and tires for FREE!!! So I guess I can't be too picky about the price of an alignment but it's hard to customize a truck to your liking on a low budget sometimes. But yeah if you keep crankin 'em they'll be ok. My buddy has the '00 Trailhead and did the same thing as me and got 2" out of his. Food for thought if you really want those 2".
