Hey Guys, I'm trying to understand if my battery isolator is working. I left the dome lights on overnight in my 03 E-350 (there's a lot of them), and it drained the batteries. The van has the factory dual battery option, and what appeares to be a selenoid or "isolator".
So my question is/are, shouldn't an isolator disconect the starting battery from any current draw? OR, if it just isolates the second battery, what loads are on the second battery? (van has towing package too)
Also, should the isolator function (open) with the key in the aux position, or only in the off position? What about in start?
Anyone know how Ford wires these from the factory?
Any help here appreciated. -Rob-
The isolator/solenoid keeps the second battery off the circuit and makes it so the truck doesn't know it is there. The only time the second battery comes into play is if you need a jump by it.
