2" or 4" drop on ball mount

I have a stock 2004 F250 (v10, crew cab)...I will soon be towing a travel trailer (lite version). Weight is definitely not an issue. My question is this: For my ball mount, will a 2" drop be adequate or will I need one with a 4" mount? My truck is stock with stock tires. Thanks!

measure the height to the middle of the reciever and the height to the middle of the trailer copler (sp?) and the difference between the to heights is the amount of drop you need

bring the trailer/truck combo (borrow a hitch from a friend) to UHaul and try several sizes. Get the one that is the most level with a semi-loaded trailer. There are sizes in between 2 and 4" drops.

It would be more accurate if you could measure when the trailer is hooked to the truck, loaded the way it will be loaded when traveling. This may require borrowing a drawbar to set up with.

As soon as you hook up the rear of the truck will drop some, the SD is designed this way. The smooth ride is in the first part of the spring travel, then it gets to the load bearing capacity. Ideally you want the trailer (tongue) to run level down the road so measure 1) hooked up to get truck height and 2) trailer unhooked and sitting level and then figure the difference.

Or, you could buy an adjustable ball mount; that way there's no guessing.
