the other day i heard this high pitched sqweeking coming from my drivers side front tire. then the sqweeking changed to a clanking/clicking noise too. its not the breaks or the bearings (i changed those), so any ideas on what else i can check? i would hate to have the front end lock up on me.
First, jack up one front corner of the truck, grab the tire at the top and bottom, and see if you can wiggle it. Repeat on the other corner. Adjustment is made via the nut on the spindle.
BTW, when you pack a wheel bearing it should be totally packed/stuffed with grease. I like to use the palm of my hand and work the grease into the bearing until it can hold no more. Whatever works it's way out after installation and driving will not harm anything.
