Hey guys,
What auto trans is on the 96 f250 psd? is it the e40d? and has anyone not had to rebuild over 150k? dose ford have a decant auto out or are thay all junk? thnaks for the thoughts

Yup, it's the E4OD. I was on my third by about 80,000 in my 97. If you want a stronger replacement go aftermarket. There are plenty of guys here with tranny upgrades, I am sure they will give you many opinions. My 99 is a 6-speed so I really don't follow the upgrades for the autos to close. To get started BTS and JET performance come to mind as 2 of the aftermarket suppliers.

Yes, the 96 PSD's will have a E40D which I think is different from the gasser E40D's. In 99 with the new body style Ford went with the 4R100's up to 03 with the 7.3, then in early 03 with the 6.0 they used a Torqueshift tranny which may be the stronges of the three.
The 01 4R100's are known to have an electrical issue.
