Wound Wire Resistors?

I'd like to keep the six volt system in my 53 F-100, but there are some problems. The wound wire resistor in my wiper motor is gone...totally burned out. I think the motor is in good shape now...nicely fitting brushes, turned commutator, and smoothly working linkage to the wiper blades. But, I have to replace the resistor. Where might I find one? Can I replace it with a more modern electric component?

Yes you certainly could. But you need to find the value of the original. The only way I know to do that is to beg and plead with someone up in the older truck forum, who has one laying around, to go out and take an ohmmeter, and measure it for you. Then you can buy one. There are several surplus electronics places on the web that you could get it, and if you need help figuring out what would be correct, let me know, since you can take different values and put them together to make it work. For instance, if you needed 5 ohms, at about 20 watts, then you could put two 10 ohm 10 watt resistors in parallel, and get the same thing.
