i ve taken a 79 yoke off another axle... to use on my 94 1.25 sterling axle ... but the 10.25 axle wont let of of the yoke .. i wonder if there is a trick to getting it off? also wanted to know how much quart tranny fluid will fill a 81' c-6 4x4? thanks all
Are you changing the fluid and filter? 4-5 quarts, I believe. Put in 3 quarts, start it, and check the level. Go from there. If you are also draining the torque converter, which I did, it will be more like 12 quarts. Dont just dump whole quarts in the thing. Check your fluid levels between quarts, and let the truck sit idling on a level surface until it warms up. Put the transmission in each gear for a few seconds each, returning to neutral between tests. This helps get air out of the valve body Go slowly with the refill, and you won't have problems.
While you are under there, look and see if you have an extra tranny fluid cooler installed in front of the radiator / condenser. I found one, installed from the factory, that had a leaking fluid line. Got that one fixed pronto. We never knew there was a leak, since there was really nothing hitting the ground. The fluid would travel down the frame and drip near the tranny itself.
Since the repairs, no tranny fluid level problems. Sitting on FULL and staying there!
