I snuck down to my dads to see if his truck had a chip in it because i plan on getting him one for christmas. I disconnected the batteries then removed what I think is the ecu so I had room to get to the computer. The truck is a 95 ps. After I seen it didn't have a chip I reinstalled everything in reverse. Now it wont start. It just cranks. Did undoing the ecu trip a circuit? please give advice before he finds out his truck is dead!~
Make sure you didn't bend any of the pins in the multi pin connector. Make sure both are pushed all the way in on either IDM or CPU. Did you leave the keys in the ignition when messing with the puters? The #22 fuse mentioned earlier was the one you checked in the cab or in the engine compartment? You need to check he one out in the engine compartment.
Didi you take precautions before messing with the PCM, like,
Turn off key before disconnecting batts?
Ground yourself before messing with PCM and not touch its terminals?
This minimizes danger of PCM damage from voltage spikes and static electricity. PCMs are sensitive to both.
That said, double check everything you did, step by step, to make sure you reconnected everything. Maybe you forgot something.
Possibly you blew a fuse somewhere. Check maxis 8 (IDM) 9 and 22 (PCM) (eng compartment dist box) also check APCM fuse 18 (under dash driver's side). These # locations are for a 96. I don't have fuse box diagrams for a 95 F-truck so I'll have to assume my 96 info is similar to a 95. Check your owner's manual, if you have one, for exact fuse locations. Also, in maxi 12 there's a diode that feeds PCM from maxi 22.
If everything looks OK, you'll have to do the voltage to PCM tests. If these prove out, the PCM is probably toast.
You might try this link, but you probably won't get an answer until tomorrow. http://www.flatratetech.com/
Good luck!

Glad things worked out for you.
What kind of driving does your Dad do? That will have a lot to do with what kind of chip to get.
Does he have a downpipe? The stock exhaust is very restrictive (take a look at it just behind the turbocharger where it turns down behind the engine - flat as a pancake). Also, an exhaust temp gauge would be very good to keep tabs on how hot the engine is getting.
Get gages first, before anything, otherwise you will never know till its too late that you ruined the engine. The only chips I can recommend are Diesel Innovations. Your "Old Man" is a lucky Old Man, happy holidays
I had a chip in my 97 PS. It was a Diablosport 50 hp chip. I had a wire short out on me going into the valve cover gasket which blew both my computers and cam sensor. $1800 dollars later I am driving without my chip installed. Does anyone think the chip could have caused this?
Ggg6-
BAM! You sure nailed that one, good job! Impressive!
I overlooked that one, but I don't plug in PCMs like I...well, you get the idea.
Take 'er easy on those PCMs, doodlebug! And break your own truck next time, instead of your dad's! hehehe
Seriously, glad you found the problem with a minimum of hassle/ $.
