I have a 4.6l in a 97' F150, a hole came in the left head. The hole isn't from either gaskets. The hole is REALLY in the head. Anybody have any ideas of what caused this to happen?
OK, since no one else has yet, I will chime in. My pickup, like yours, has a cracked head. I posted here and asked. Most likely, there was a bubble in the aluminum when it was cast, and after a while, this bubble decides to pop. There you have your hole or crack. Luckily, Bars Leak is doing the trick for me as a temporoary fix until we can get it fixed (or sell it). It depends on where you are, but for me both heads plus labor is almost as much as a rebuilt motor, with 2yr/24,000 mile warrenty.
Well, Jimmy, I'm not sure who if you're talking to me or tt3d here. Right now I am driving my pickup. (I know I know - it worries me too) Maybe when we get the new motor put in I will see what I can do.
Well hopefully he can. My dad's 97 has developed a nice sound. That metallic sound that says "bearings" hopefully its just something else, but I really don't know. If it is bearings I may be getting a different pickup (since he actually owns the one I drive too)
