Hey all, I would love some advice here, I use my f-150 for towing a small horse tralier, and was wondering wat is the easyest way to switch a 4x4 from a 3.55 to a 4.10? is it beast to just swap out the front and rear axils of can I do it an other way, , what do you all think is best?? thanks J
Since F150's of your year never came with 4.10 gears from the factory, you're not likely to find a pair of junkyard axles to fit it with that ratio in them. Best way is to swap the gears themselves with new gearsets and leave the axles in the truck. I did just what you're proposing on my F350. Went from 3.55 to 4.56 for better towing power. On a 4wd, this is not cheap, since you have to do both axles, but if you're towing, you will certainly be pleased with the result once you're done with it .

I had mine done by a shop that specializes in axle and driveline work, so it was pretty easy for me. If you are planning to do the gear swap yourself, message MustangGT221 (Justin), moderator of the '87-96 truck forum, as he has done a few gear setups on F150 axles. is a very helpful guy, and can offer you some good info on how2 go about it.
