My son has an '87 Ranger 2.9 EFI auto 4x. It has just started a weird miss after it's warms up good that has me puzzled. It's not consistant and seems more like ingition than EFI related because of it's randomness. I've replaced the module, checked the plugs (they are burning really good), checked connections, tested the coil (with an ohm meter)and pulled codes (nothing to mention showed up). I haven't replaced the cap and rotor yet though I'll do that later this week. It was better today after all the attention but it was still there especially noticable on a hill under low throttle, higher throttle was not as bad but still there. It's like it loses 1 cylinder for a beat but not consistantly. Consistant I can trace. I plugged the vacuum line to the EGR for todays test, one of the codes was EGR related but I get that code on all my Fords.
That kind of a vague description but it's a vague miss. All ideas appreciated. THANKS

It might be a lazy injector if it's still there after new ignition parts, but my best bet would be an arcing plug wire.
OK. I changed the cap, rotor and wires and the one miss seems to be gone but now a 2nd problem has risen it's head. When the beast is cold I have to push the gas pedal half way to the floor before the truck will move..then it goes like hell because I'm at half throttle. When I let off it goes back to idle and won't respond to the pedal until I shove about half way down again. As it warms up it slowly quits this weird action and begins running relatively normal. What's going out?? TPS? MAP? Where would you start looking?
