302 3 speed
As for a 5speed, there is the ZF 5-speed used in '80's - '97 trucks. It has a granny first and an overdrive 5th. It also has a hydraulic clutch that may cause some installation issues. ZF's are one-piece case and bellhousing, so if you do decide to swap one in, make sure you get one to fit your engine, since Ford uses so many different bellhousing bolt patterns on their engines. You can use one from a 2wd truck with a 351W, 302, or 300 inline-6. These transmissions are mostly found in F250's and F350's.
Another option is a New Venture NV4500 5-speed. This one also has a granny first and an overdrive 5th but does not have a one piece case and can use a mechanical clutch. It was not used by Ford, but can be used in a Ford. www.wildhorses4x4.com has some info about putting an NV4500 in an early Bronco originally with a 3 speed.

You can go with a T 5 if you aren't going to haul big loads, or other T trannys listed:

You can go with the 4 speed OD that ford put in, the toploader looking one. See the 4speed toploader site, ID chart, toploader imposters, or go here:
