I'm just starting to fix up my old truck I bought a few years ago. I crawled up under it to have a look around and I noticed this...
What caused this? I'm guessing some kind of seal has gone bad. Do you guys think it would be easyer to just find another rearend or fix this one?
I have no idea what kind of rearend this is, it's whatever came stock in a 71' F250. I know that dosen't help much. I have a good 9 inch thats in my 69 parts truck, but I would really like to keep the 8 lug wheel pattern.
Figgure I'd bump this up once. Thanks sixpack. Is the pinion seal hard to change? I'm not sure how long it's been like this so I guess I'll pop the rear cover and check everything out. What kind of fluid should I put back in it? Truck has about 400,000 miles on it which seems to be about twice what most of these old fords have on them.
Right now I'm replaceing the engine so I guess I'll finish that before I really worry about this. One step at a time...
