I like the Lock Right. It's cheap, simple, and very effective. The NoSlip is good if you want something that is a little quieter on the street and have a little more cash available. www.powertrax.com.
Of course there is always the legendary Detroit Locker, which isn't cheap anymore but is super strong and very effective. The EZ Locker is a less expensive alternative that is pretty much the same thing as a Lock Right. www.tractech.com.
However, if this is a truck that spends most of it's life on the street and is not used for 4 wheeling fun, I would go with one of the limited slips instead of the lockers.
For a trouble-free limited slip that won't wear out clutch packs, I would choose the Trac Tech True-Trac all-gear limited slip (no clutches).
If I was going with a clutch-type limited slip, I'd want a Precision Gear Powr-Loc. Same design as the Dana Powr-Loc, but available for more applications. www.precisiongear.com.
The Auburn www.auburngear.com and Eaton Posi www.eaton.com are about the same design, and the Trac-Lok is the most basic of all the clutch-types. These provide reasonable traction with no strange behavior, clunks, chirps, etc on the street.
For an on/off road truck that is 4 wheeled hard but also driven daily and in ice and snow, I would choose a selectable locker, like a Trac Tech Electrac or ARB Air Locker www.arb.com. The ability to have a locker when you want it and a limited slip or open diff the rest of the time is a big attraction. They are not cheap though....
The Eaton is a very strong/quite unit. I've been running an Auburn on my blown/modified 94 Lightning without any problems for the past 5 years. The Eaton unit is a premium piece, and if my Auburn ever brakes, then that is what I will go with. There are quite a few that I know that are making well over 450 rwhp and well over 500rwtq for many miles without any problems. They perform awesome for higher HP applications and still maintain their streetability like a stock unit.
I have the Trac tec detroit true trac posi on my 89 f1504x4. It works great for me and again no clutches to replace. I do mild four wheeling with it and haven't had any problems yet.
