OK folks, did a search on power steering fluid - 396 posts in the forums. And I am still confused!
I have an 89 F150 and in need of some fluid due to a leak in the hose (repaired) and I need to know what kind of fluid to buy. Type F - Mercron - Dextron - PS fluid - Lucus- etc.????
Please don't tell me to read the manual. I am at least the third if not the tenth owner. Book is long gone!
I've had good service from Valvoline's semi-synthetic PS fluid. It also has conditioner and stopleak in it. We all know how a large percentage of Ford PS pumps can squeal. I got a quart of this 2 years ago to top off the fluid in my Ranger and it quit squealing as well as quit using fluid. I still have over half the quart on the workbench shelf. 10 years old and 140K miles and still on the original PS pump.
