engine problems
I have a 72 Ford f100 ranger xlt. In it, it has a v-8 390 in it. I am going to start fixing her up as soon as I get back from Kuwait. But before i left I was having some problems keeping her running. I would start her upand she would run for about 5 minutes or so and then start sputtering and if i did not keep a constant pressure on the gas she would start to die and if i let up on it completely she would die and then not start for quite a while after that. I tried quick fix of wrapping the fule line in aluminum foil thinking maybe it was vapor lock. Can anyone else think of what it might be. Fuel filter has been changed several times even took that tank out and dumped all of the rust chunks out but was not able to get it completly cleaned out.....Need help.

You should start with the carb, check your needle and seats for any debri, and make shure you have fuel flowing from the tank to the carb freely, or even the screen that is on the inlet of the carb, try some carb cleaner down the bores. hope that helps.

Sounds like the carb needs some attention. It might be the choke if it is electric, but its probably time for a carb kit.
Question for you. I have never heard of wrapping the fuel line with foil to stop vapor lock. Help me out with this one.
I have always cut a couple inches out of the steel line and put rubber hose back in its place.

Thanks for the info. I will check into a carb kit when i get back stateside. As for the wraping the alminum foil I heard it from someone not sure where I head it i think it was on hear when i posted something about this problem once before. Again thanks for all of your help.
