Ok I have this 99' psd that makes pretty good power. I'm thinking it has had a power mod done to it. But I don't know what. When I bought the truck it had gauges, stock exhaust and stock air filter, but it seems pretty fast. It shows about 27 psi max. I did the 6673 air filter mod and straight piped the exhaust just behind the cab. After doing that the ses light would come on (from over boost) so I bought a regulator and fixed that. All is good, but I want more power. I'm buying a bully dog 4 bank 6 way chip monday. I want to put the truck back to stock (except for the intake/exhaust) and just run the bullydog. I have checked for the 10k mod- doesn't have it. The waste gate is hooked up. I'm pulling the computer out tomorrow to see if it has a chip but I was told that it probably doesn't because the plastic cover isn't cut away. So that leads me to think it has been tuned with a tuner. I'll have the computer flashed at the dealer if I need to. Is there any other power mods that can be done to these rigs? I just want to check it all before I pay the dealer to flash a stock computer.
It wasn't until the latter part of 2001 that chips started coming out with multiple programs and switches to control them. If you are making 27 pounds of boost it's almost a sure thing there's a chip in there, that, or a previous owner put a set of injectors in it..extremely unlikely given the stock nature of the rest of the rig.
If there is not a chip and it becomes evident that it has a tuner installed, do not get it reflashed. Tuners are married to the VIN..in other words, they can only reprogram one PCM at a time, which means somebody has a tuner that is worthless until they get your stock tune out of it.

I realize turners are vin locked. So you are saying that I shouldn't get it flashed just because somebody I don't know has a worthless tuner? I have no idea who the p/o is and have no way to find out.
Vancouver, I wouldn't worry about the tuner. If your seeing 27psi with the wastegate connected, then you have got a pretty hot chip in there. If it is a tuner, then as you said the p/o didn't care to return the truck back to stock, why should you care if he now has a useless tuner.
No, I just assumed that you would know howto find the previous owner, and that he would be fairly eager to rid himself of a tuner that was only good for you.
Did you get the PCM out today? Was there a chip...what kind?
