Dashboard Fan?
Purchased a 2002 f-150 supercrew this week. I am puzzled by the fan sound coming from the C.D. climate control area of the dashboard. Fan sound is present if the heater or CD is off or on. Just putting the key in the ignition and turning the key to the auxillary positiion will cause the sound to appear. Seems very similar to the fan sound of a computer hard drive.
Is this to be expected with this truck or is some system engaging erroniously which needs to be fixed.

Some of the radios have a cooling fan, but it shouldn't be causing that much noise. Maybe something is rubbing it or it's really dirty? You can pull off the trim around the radio and take a closer look/listen. Just pull the trim from the A/C vent area or slip a tape covered flat screwdriver around the trim and pry it off. Just be carefull with the passenger air bag switch, the connector will still be attached but it has a good amount of slack.
