I own a 1997 Ford Explorer 5.0L V8. I have been wanting to replace the back break rotors. I have replaced the front ones just fine but the back rotors are stuck and dont want to budge. Im sure other people are having this problem. I tried everything to get them off but nothing works. Please help me with this problem. Thanks
The e-brake is off. Thats what i thought it was but when i took turned it off they still didnt come off. I have tried hitting the rotor but it still doesnt move.
If the rotors have never been off the truck, there's a small metal clip that holds the rotor in place. It's part of the assembly process at the factory. I know it's a 97, but I've seen stranger things. If there's no clip, then either the E-brake shoes are hanging up, or the rotor is rusted in place. Those are the only possibilities I'm aware of.
Yes, they are hard to remove sometimes. Northern climates, and lack of use multiplies the problem. It will take time, patience, a hammer, screwdriver, and some curse words. Good luck,

Yeah, what he said. Spray them with some good rust penetrate stuff. I suggest PB Blaster. Spray in the cracks around the lugs and around the center hole around the axle. Let that stuff soak in and then beat with hammer.
