This may seem like a dumb question, but I am stuck and will ask it anyway. I have had my truck for six months. When I got it the mechanic said there was a new fuel filter on it, so I didn't change it. Well today I tried to take it off and it will not budge. I tried everything I could think of and it never moved. Any ideas? Does it work better with engine hot or cold. It is a 90 7.3. Thanks for any help.
do you have a filter wrench that fits it ? It should not be that darn tight on there unless some gorilla installed it. Make sure you are going the right way to loosen it.
The mechanic probably did not lubricate the upper seal on installation, before getting the filter off I would drain the thing and try to get the base off/loose. It will be a dandy if it is on the same way and your trying to remove it on the bench......BTDTGTS
Just changed my filter last night. I disconnected the fuel lines and removed the entire bracket with the filter still on it. It was still a pain. Had I not done that, I probably would have broken something on that aluminum bracket trying to remove it. I had to clamp the bracket in a vise and use big channel lock pliers to unscrew it.
