I called the previous owner of a lowered floor hadicapped accessable Windstar that I bought a few years ago. She was nice and told me that other than the fuel pump going out once, it was pretty much trouble free. At the time, it had 112K on it, but she said it was from driving long distances for medical care for her handicapped child. No major problems yet, waterpump, shocks, struts. Just normal wear and tear stuff to be expected. It now has about 137K on it and uses no oil between changes. It's a 96 with the original battery still in it. Built Ford tough!!!
Anyway, I felt much better about the van and went ahead and bought it.
I never called about my 2001 F150 I bought in 2003. But, it only had 26K on it and was a lease return that was still under the factory warranty so I felt pretty good about buying it from a reputable Ford dealer.
He told me the alternator, battery, and power steering pump was new. He also said plugs and wires were peplaced at 80k, and the cd magazine that was missing, was there when he traded it in. No biggie, I got one from a friend. Overall, he had nothing negative to say about the truck.
I did, however, toss something away that I should not have. he said there was a metal thing to use when the tonneau cover is unsnapped? Something about losing a rail without it? Can someone clarify this for me? thanks.
I found the previous owners info in the manual when I bought mine...glad I did. I found out more than I would of ever known without, and Im glad the used car dealer didnt know, or I would of paid more. The previous owner was the head cheese for a big construction company and use the vehicle personally. The original dealer verified what he said too....the truck was always maintained at the dealer, and it was special order truck. The owner didnt want a huge truck but he did want it to be capable of decent loads on occasion. So he special ordered and out came my now F150 with the heavy duty suspension giving it nearly the same tow and load limits of an F250. Gotta love it!
