Question Troubleshooting code for '98 Ford Ranger

I have a '98 ford Ranger extended cab 4x4 with a 4.0L engine. The check engine light came on and when i had it checked at Autozone it read a P1405 Code and said DPFE Sensor upstream hose off or plugged. The guys at Autozone didn't have a clue as to what it was, they thought maybe an EGR valve, but can't confirm. Can anyone help me with this problem?? Thanks

Sounds like the infamous DPFE sensor problem... Ford has had major problems w/ this sensor... it would be near the EGR valve, mine has two hoses that go to it. Do check to see if the hoses are clear... it is likely that the sensor is bad, they're less than $30 at Ford.

From: Alvin, Texas.
AutoZone lists that bad boy in a different section than the EGR and I didn't find out the other night...one of my hoses was hacked off and I was almost getting gassed out like I had a BAD exhaust leak. Changed both hoses with 5/16" tranny cooler hose from across the street at O'Reilly, btw.

If you unscrew the sensor and write down the part number behind it and give that to them, they can cross-reference it--they will NEED to see it! Then that will solve their mystery.
