Help..
On my wifes '00 expedition eddie bauer, there is a air pump mounted on the left front fender under the air clearer that just started running all the time, even when the key is off, and at the same time the ABS light came on on the dash..
There is no error code in the OBDII, or not one I can read...
I unhooked the power to the pump to keep it from burning up...does anyone know what I need to do next??
listen around your front tires to see if you hear air leaking. The air line going into your struts could be loose. Or your height sensors could be off there clips and pressed together. If your pump is constantly running then your truck should be sitting very high in the air if this is so then you dont have a leak but if your truck is not raises, check the sensors: Front is behind the driver side wheel, and the rear is under the truck on the cross member by the rear axle.
I just began experiencing this problem tonight and was wondering if you found out what the problem was. It appears to be the ABS system from what I can tell, but don't know why it continues to run.
I removed the 50A maxi-fuse for the ABS and got the pump to stop running, but would still love to find out what is causing this if anyone has any idea.
Do you have just the load leveling in the back or all the way around? My Navi had a simular problem and I found the quick connect for the air line was split. It was not possible to hear the leak running the compressor motor so I disconnected both lines from the air pump and put compressed air to them and was able to hear the air escaping. Mine was actually the left front line right in front of the under hood fuse box. Good luck
It sounds like the original poster is having the same issue I am and if that's the case, it is the ABS motor/pump that is running, not the suspension or load leveling. I am still interested to see if anyone else is having or had this problem and what was involved in fixing (ie cost, etc.)
I think it is the ABS pump, I don't have the load leveling suppension on the '00.
I didn't try the fuse as ST8FB suggested, (I just unplugged the pump). I'll go plug it back in and try the fuse and see if that cuts it off as well.
I found a company in Idaho that can rebuild the ABS box for about $200, but I don't want to rebuild something that isn't the problem.
My Ford dealer wanted to replace three components (pump, module, and something else), to the tune of $1800, so the dealer doesn't seem to know the problem either (as a matter of fact, they didn't even read my note and plug the pump back in). I don't have an xtended warranty.
OK,
I plugged the pump back in, and it came on instantly with the key off, and then pulled the 50 amp abs fuse, and it went back off. there is no fuse in the slot for air suppension..
I guess I will pull the module next month and send it off, unless someone has something else for me to try first.
I'd be interested in hearing about the possibility of rebuilding the ABS box if you go this route. I have been afraid to take it to the dealer for fear of the shock when they tell me the cost to repair.
Good luck and I'll let you know if I find out anything new.
