I have a 99 Expy. OK, check for the leak in the head gasket. Mine has it, but it only loses 1/2 qt or so in 3K miles so I am living with it.
Have never blown a plug. I love the power of the 5.4L. Much better than the 305 I had in my old Chevy. So far the truck has been very reliable. I picked mine up used this fall with only 60K miles on it. Very clean truck.
Watch out for the dreaded piston slap. I have a 99 and the piston problem too. You will hear it on cold starts in the winter. Other than that it has been great. I would certainly get another one, just without the piston slap. By the way, when I took it back to Ford they said "that was the noise they make". They don't do anything about it. I don't know what years had the problem. Good luck with it.
I bought the same vehicle except white a few months ago from the ford dealer in Vandalia... they had good deals believe it or not. Its very nice and we love it.
