I am trying to sort out my trailer wiring, its kind of a mess in the back and I have no full time power back there. There is a big yellow and white wire back there one should be hot, anyone know where it could be losing power, the fuses all checked out okay. Someone said I had to plug something in under the dash to make it work, who knows if they knew what they were talking about or not.
Where is the trailer wiring under the dash, like where do you hook in for the brake control?
In my 02' SD with a 5.4l, it is found by going though the panel under the steering column. Once it is off look to the right and there is a steal brace with a passage though it. On my truck it is the first connecter though the passage. It is well worth the money to have the FoMoCo wiring to just plug in to it. Also on my 02' there are fuses and also relays for the trailer power in the fuse box.
Good luck, da'Moose

i just sent you an email, respond back to me and i will email the picts of where everything goes
Gary, What truck to you have? Are you talking about your trailer lights only or brake controller? On my 97 F350 there are two wire harness at the back (can't remember colors) one with 2 wires and the other has 4 wires, both with plugs. I had to come out of both these harness to my 6 pin plug. However, the two wire harness was not hot. Apparently Ford runs these wires back there, but only supplies power to them if you order trailer tow package?? any way that's what the local stealership told me.In order to get them hot, I had to buy a relay box and relays, and install it. It attaches to the aft side of main fuse box under the hood. But you might not need them hot, as they are aux pwr for battey charge or aux lights in my case.
As far as brake controller, those wire are under dash somewhere depending on what truck you have. Get the Ford harness and wire it to your controller and plug it in. Piece of cake once you locate the plug under your hood.
Post again if you run into problems.
Well I guess there was nothing wrong, The PDFs were very handy thanks Frank. On my 89 f250 there was an always positve lead even with the key off. You have to have the key on to get the positive to the back on the 99. I am hooking up a camper so I always have power for the lights in it.
