Brake Controller for '02 Ranger FX4

I'm buying a travel trailer that has electric brakes, and need to install a brake controller. Since a lot of trucks are coming prewired now, I poked around the dash and found a plug that's below the steering column and mounted for easy access with the plastic dash trim being molded to make it accessible. It's at the bottom of the dash trim midway between the hood release and the console. It's a black plug and though it has many holes for wires, I count 7. Could this be a harness for a brake controller? I can email a pic to anyone that might be able to provide me with some help.

buy a harness adapter or find the one that came with the truck and see if it fits...

Not sure about Rangers, but on Explorers the connector is gray; it's a 6-pin (3 over 3) with 5 wires. Most controllers use only 4 of the 5 wires.
