I am in the middle of doing my timing chain but i'm having a major problem putting the crank pully and the shaft that slides over the crank back on. The keyways a pain and The shaft that I need to slide onto the crank wont even go on with a hammer. Does anyone have any idea how to get this back on easy? This is so frusterating.
Assembly lube is applied to the crank snout, the crank gear is installed first and should slide over the Woodruff key, then the chain while it is attached to the cam gear. After those are in, the oil slinger goes in front of the crankshaft gear. You need to install the timing cover and the crank shaft damper spacer at the same time, using the spacer to align the bolt holes on the timing cover. A little tough without pics...
Yeah I know it's hard to explain without pics. unfortunately i dont have a camera. The problem i'm having is getting the damper spacer to go on. it's kicking my butt and i've tried everything to get this thing on! thanks for the reply I guess i'll just keep workin on it untill I get it right. This sucks!
So the timing chain and all is already set and good to go? If that's the case, the timing cover is next and the spacer should just slide on. It is also notched for the Woodruff key (I think) that went on with the crank gear. Make sure you are not putting on the other Woodruff key before putting on the spacer, that goes with the damper, that's a separate deal.
Was it hard to pull off? I figure your problem is the key, it may not be in in there all the way and it may be out of shape on the top side if some one has hit on it too much. Id take the key out and see if it slides into the spacer easy, if not then its your key. If it does then you dont have it in there right. Just be sure not to hit it on too hard, because if the key isnt in there right it will crack your spacer and you will need a new one. Good Luck
Thanks for the help guys! The woodruff key needed to be filed down. It had gotten a little out of shape but it's back together and running great now. Thanks again!
