I'd just like to say right off the bat I don't know what I would do without this site, you guys are awesome.
I have a full-size '96 Eddie Bauer Bronco. Everything is fine when I start it up every day, then after I drive about a hundred yards my ABS light comes on. After that happens, if I hit the brakes even slightly hard 2 of my tires will lock, even on dry pavement.
We got our first snow of the season yesterday, and needless to say it's a bit scary driving like this.
Not sure if this is related, by I have since lost my high beam indicator light on the dash.
Hopefully this is something I can fix myself since the cash flow is tight right now.
Thanks again guys in advance.
I have a '94 XLT and my ABS light does the same thing. I have been driving it like that for about a month. I figure is is a bad ground. I do not have the problem with my tires locking up. The other lights in the dash seem to work fine. I had a brake guy check out my brake system and he said everything was working fine. Sorry, I can't help. Sounds like you have a bigger problem than I do.
check the wiring and the sensor on top of the rear diff. Make sure all the connections are good and that the sensor is clean and not boogered up with diff sludge.
i had the same problem wiyh my 95' bronco. the abs light was on all the time but i had no problems with braking. i took it in to get fixed and i was told it was an abs pump. I had it replaced and haven't had the light turn on since. Was alot of money though
Well I just got the Bronco looked at, it turns out it is the ABS Pump Motor. Can anybody tell me what other years or models would interchange with my "95 Full-size Eddie Bauer w 5.8L?
My brothers father-in-law had the big book with the cross checking in it, but I can't get it from him.
Thanks, this could save me allot of dough...
Ok guys I just finished the investigation, and PLUGLY you're right! The only vehicle I can get one from will be a 93-96 Bronco. That kinda sucks, and apparently FORD knows it. I just stopped at the local dealership here in town and he gave me a quote on the pump motor assembly, without labor (swear to god) $1185.......Found a few on the internet at other salvage yards they all seem to be between 2 and 3 hundred. Of course maybe they work and maybe they don't.
$1185!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the hay!!!!!! Still I cannot figure the dealerships sometimes. I would hope some aftermarket company would sell it for a lot less.
Screw it. Mine went about 3 years ago, and my brakes work just fine with 31" tires. You have regular 'ole brakes now. Put a piece of black tape over the light, and just be aware of it (No ABS). Unless you just got to spend that hard earned money?
try looking for someone selling one on ebay or something that is doing an SAS and ditching it. thats what i did when I went to an SAS. I think it sold for a few hundred on ebay IIRC.
