Does a diesel shift ?

I know this sounds strange, but my 4 speed auto shifts 5 times. I know, this is not happening, it just feels that way. Is there something about a diesel that feels like a shift? Last night I took off from a standing start and I swear I counted 4 shifts.

Any info on this?

Maybe you're feeling the torque convertor lockup.

Probably the T/C lockup. It happens on mine around 30 mph. Then, at about 45, it shifts into overdrive. You can watch your tach around 30 and see if the rpm's fall when it feels like it "shifts". Then, tap the brake pedal, the rpm's should jump back up to where they were. The converter will unlock when the brakes are applied.

That's probably it, I just never noticed it with the 460 E4OD I had. I know the 4R100 (I think that is the number) is just an updated E4OD.
