oil problem
I posted this question in another room..maybe i can get some input here..i have a 1991 ford ranger 4x4 4 cylinder..the problem is i can used up to 2 quarts of oil a day..the only time i see it smoking is when i start it..then it stops..the plugs are not fouled up..they are clean..i tried Marvel Mystery Oil..that seams to just make it burn more oil..one guy told me to try using a quart of diesel fuel..saying it might clean up the pistons and rings and stop them from sticking,cleaning the carbon off them..someone else told me the same thing..this 4 cylinder engine also has 2 distributer caps and 8 spark plugs..i never seen one like it..can someone give me some input on what i can do..or is diesel fuel the way to go on this..if i had the money i would not go the cheap way..thanks

I've seen people drain the oil and put in diesel fuel and then start it and let it idle for say 10-30 minutes depending on the buildup. I wouldn't drive it. Drain the diesel and put oil back in.
2 qts a day?????? Wow. I am not familiar with your engine having two distributors but that must be a hot spark to keep your plugs clean.
Have you completed a compression or leak down test? Sounds like more is amiss than stuck rings.

Have you looked in the cooling system to make sure the oil is not going there? Or maybe the oil is dripping on the exhaust and getting burned off? Two quarts a day is a huge amount and I find it hard to believe that if it's being burned, there's no sign of oil on the plugs.
