Help with lower ball joints
I need to replace both my lower ball joints on a 96 explorer 4X4. I am getting estimates for $475-$600.I think that is high since I have replace ball joints on my 87 ranger before with little problem. Has anyone have any experience with this job on an explorer? I would like any advice that I could get.

Your quotes seem very high.....the parts here in AUS are only around $77 / side for lowers. The press is important - and not available here at the moment which meant that the old joints had to be driven out with a hammer and a piece of pipe.
Fitting the newies is more difficult as these fit from under the leaf.
If you can't find a press to do the work, please advise. Have a few tips that may help.

This is the procedure I followed on my 99 Mountaineer and I was very pleased when done. It saved me $500.
