Question Please help

I have a 96 f-350 about a month ago i was driving along and the truck died on me i had a friend look at and he found a fuse that was blown replaced it and it was fine now 2 days ago i started to let it warm up went back outside and the truck was dead again same fuse blown, the fuse that keeps blowing is a 30(amp) maxi fuse i looked in my manual and it says that it runs the fuel line heater, glow plug contoller, and powertrain control system relay coil. where do i start?

Look at this diagram

and poke around your engine compartment to see if the diagram jives with what you have. According to this diagram, the 30 amp maxi fuse only goes to the fuel injection unit. The glow plugs have no fuses, only fusible links, and the heater is on a seperate fuse.

From the description the manual had in it, I would tend to believe you must be blowing out the 20 amp fuse #22. If you find this is the case, then I would suspect the heater unit, or the wiring associated with it being bad. I am leaning toward this conclusion because it's theonly thing that is really drawing any power. If you study the diagram, this fuse only feeds the relay coils of the PCM relay and the glow plug relay. You may want to try to find these relays, and look at the red/lightgreen wire feeding them, incase it's touching metal somewhere, but other than that senario, the coils draw very little current. The current hog in this case will be the heater unit. And if it's under the truck on the frame rail somewhere, it could be more exposed to being damaged. If I had to guess, I would suspect the heater unit itself, or it's wiring.
