What is this?
Can anyone tell me what this thing is? I don't feel air blow out of it or into it no matter what the vent settings...

Maybe just a spot for the radio and everything to vent when it gets warm back there? Wild guess, but it sounds good enough to me...

Just a guess, but if the dash is the same as on an Explorer then I'd venture to say is a vent used for electronic climate control, if/when equipped.

This is correct. In Explorers which share the same dash as the Ranger, one of the sensors for the climate control is located behind here.

Guess I've been around cars too long. That "sniffer" monitors the temperature at the vehicle occupant level. They exist on other cars in a similar configuration/position.

This may be one one the best threads ever! I always wondered what that thing was, but I was too afraid to try to describe it. Good job on helping us find out maticuno!

That is weird. Just yesterday, after 5 years owning the truck I decided I really, really wanted to know what that thing was.
