Wanting to build 302 HO for an 85 truck. Is there any reason why I would need to use a egr manifold instead of non egr? Don't have emissions checks in this state. Any problems with spark knock when using non egr.
Probable parts I will be using:
9.3:1 compression rebuild kit from Summit
Crane cam and roller rockers
Roush cast iron heads
Headers
Dual exaust without cats
Thanks for the info. Don't know what ports and hoses I will need yet. This is a project truck I am building out of several junkers. So far have done a complete frame off. Sandblasted and painted frame, cab, bed, fenders. Rebuilt the front end, rearend, and AOD. Now I plan on building the motor and get this thing running. Been apart for two years now working on it when I had some extra cash. Its a 84-85-86 truck now.
hey ronclark, i envy you. your state doesn't have smog requirements? what state is that? i live in california and even lawnmowers and BBQ's have to meet emissions. Lucky SOB.
Georgia. We had one years ago but they stopped it. The emission and safety checks were just another way for crooked mechanics to rip off customers. I was able to stop by my friendly mechanic and pick up a sticker without ever bringing my truck to the shop, but if you didn't know someone then you never got out with at least a headlight adjustment- like the headlights get out of adjustment in a years time.
in california, they are trying to push the no smog year back from 1975 to 1965 or something like that. go ahead, find me a 1965 pickup with emissions equipment on it. really, go ahaead.
