Body lift?

Can you guys shed some light on this. I know what it is, but can you tell me how it gets done and how much I'm going to spend to get it done right, or even if I could do it myself.

I know where I live a body lift installed is about $700, the kit with all the drop brackets, everything you need to do it right costs about $275 if I am remembering correctly.

About 6-7 years ago, I did my own body lift. It wasn't too hard. Took about one day and I needed a friend or two to help lift the body while installing the "blocks". I also needed a welder to help move a Park brake wire bracket, and to extend my "4X4" shifter. Everything else went quite well. I also had to buy a few tools to remove some of the large torx bolts.

I wouldn't pay $700 to have one installed. I could have bought a welder for that price.

Well you have a point, but I felt like letting the guys that do it who do this for a living on a regualr basis. I know they had to extend and weld those bed braces that attach to the frame around the center of the bed, extend the steering knuckle (something like that?), and alignment of the bumpers and what not. It was worth the $400 in labor to me, but I can see where if you have the time, place, tools, and help it could be worth saving the money on -

Basically a body lift is putting in spacers between your frame and your body, hence the name, because it only lifts the body. Anyway, basically, you unscrew all the bolts holding on your bed of your truck, leave the bolts in on one side (so the box doesnt slide off, and jack up the other side, then put in your spacers, and new longer bolts, then lower the one side of the bed, then go to the other side, jack is up, put in the spacers and bolts, then lower your bed. You do the same thing for the cab, but i believe you have to disconnect a couple more items. If you think it will only take you a day, then make sure you have a 3 day weekend planned, because it will most likely take you 2 times as long as you think it will. and if it doesnt take all 3 days, then you have an extra day to go and play with your new truck, drive it around for all your friends to see, etc... The price will depend upon what year ranger you have, the newer ones are more expensive, i know for my 94 it is like 100 bucks and if you have a manual tranny you need a shift extender, which is like 35, and if you want gap guards (not neccessary) they are like 70. Also, your bed bolts are a T55 torx bit. These are availible at most auto parts stores.

Good point, and I am sure I scheduled myself extra time. I do remember it being an all day 7am-9pm, kind of thing. I also think that I did have to pull it back in the garage to do a few small adjustments a day or two later.
