Hi people. I'm in the process of buying a 77 F-350 SC long bed. I have a 76 F-250 SC long bed already. The 77 has a bad 460 and a C6 that the guy says is good. This is a good friend so I trust his word on what he tells me about this thing. I'm planning on pulling my 390 and C6 out of the 250 and transplant it into the 350. Besides the motor mount towers and exhaust is there any thing else I need to switch over? Also my 250 has 9 leaf rear springs with overloads, if necessary can I put at least the overload spring on the 350? My 250 is a 2wd but it sits up high. Most people mistake it for a 4wd at first glance. It's benn this way since I had the kingpins replaced several years ago. Will those fit over to the 350 if those are bad? I'm thinking they will but I'm not sure. Basically I plan to build the 350 and scavenge everything that will swap off the 250 and either sell or scrap what's left. When I get it done I'll post all the leftovers in the classifieds and let you all have at it. Thanks alot everybody
Stretch,
It sounds like the 250 is in better shape than the 350? What's up?
Don't reinvent the wheel or destroy a good truck just to restore another.
How bad is the 460? Why not repair it? Sell the 250 and use the funds to fix the 350? It's evident you don't want the 250? But it sounds like you've put alot into it.
I must be missing something here? Could you explain?

I agree with dfisher1. Why not attempt to find another 460/c6 combination to replace in the 350? There are los of 460's out there and would require no modifications.
Thanks for the reply. I've had the 250 for about ten years and she's still a good ole truck, but the cab is real bad. The floors are almost gone, the wiring is shot, both panels below the side windows are almost rusted through. The left side was dented in real bad when a upset cow hit it before I got it and bondoed in. The frame has been welded a couple of times already. The 350 is still solid except for the lower rear cab corners, which I can replace from a sponser here. The 460 has bad valves at the very least. The trans is supposed to be good. My 390 in the 250 is a good solid well maintained motor that I have alot of faith in. The trans behind it was rebuilt a couple of years ago by a friend and has been tweaked to shift smooth and easy in normal driving and pull to just shy of redline under hard load. It comes down to a matter of time, money, and labor. I figured to put the good driveline in the better chassis, by the time I fix everything on the 250 I figure the swap is the less expensive way to go. Believe me, I'll salvage everything usable off the 250 and probably some things that aren't.
Stretch,
Consider this,
The 460 is a more desirable motor.
The 250 is running and can haul the 460 to the shop for you.
Get some prices on a rebuild for the 460.
I would never pull down two vehicles to build one. It's too risky. It's possible that neither may ever run agian.
Good luck,
kingFisher
Thanks for the come back dfisher. Not to denigrate your's or anybody elses mechanical abilities, but this isn't any more than a simple engine tranny swap. It only took a weekend to put the 390 and trans in the 250 even with some minor fabricating, such as the shift linkage and exhaust. I'll be sure to check out everything closely to avoid any surprises with this one. I know that SC's are getting a little scarce but there are at least 10 to 15 that I know of running around here where I live in NE Nebraska. Last summer I stopped into the local Menards and ended up with 8 SCs parked together. There was just about all models there, from 150 sb, lb, 250 lb, 350 lb in various trim levels. I also know of another dozen or so in salvage yards and farm places within an hour or two drive and I'm not even searching to hard right now. They run the gamut from just shy of scrap to looking road ready. The bigest problem with my 250 is that it's going to cost more to repair what's wrong than to just either replace the cab or transplant the driveline into a different body and keep a ready supply of parts with the rest. But I'm always open to suggestions.
