I was looking at putting some 35" tires on my '05 F250CC 4x4, and I was told by the guy at the tire shop that a lot of wheel manufacturers had not yet come out with the correct offset wheels to accomodate the '05 Superduties. He said he could put the tires on some other 17" wheels, but they would stick out too far and look goofy. Is there something strange about the '05 wheels that makes them different from the '04's and earlier, or am I just being handed a line?
I'm talking about standard chrome wheels - not some custom made, $500/ea type wheel...
Yeah, my 05 F350 has some funky lookin flat front wheels, and they seem to fit well inside the wheel wells. Seems that a deeper dished rim would set the wheels out too far and look funny. Is it because they increased the size of the brake rotors, and had to set the wheels out farther, hence a need for flat faced rims?
I know this is not the same wheel size as you have but I put some 325-65-r18 (35"x13") Nitto Grapplers on my new 05 F350 4X4. They fit the stock rims and look real good to me and all the folks that stop me in parking lots. I post this just so you can see what the offset looks like on some stock Ford rims. I think the 17" rims have the same offset as the 18". You can see some pics off them in my gallery. Hope this helps

I was wondering the same thing. I just bought a brand new set of take-offs from a neighbor with an '05 to put on my 2001. He wanted something out of the ordinary, so he let me have the set for next to nothing. But they are much flatter and will likely look narrow and goofy under my '01. Will post results when I get them switched out.
I believe that they increased the front axle width on the '05s (and of course in doing so also had to increase the width of the rear axle), so they increased the backspacing on the wheels to keep them from sticking out.
To run aftermarket wheels on an '05 you'll want something with more than 5" of backspacing. The '05s I've seen with aftermarket wheels have had a backspacing that ranges from 5.14-5.62" (they were Weld and Helo wheels on the '05s I've seen). Whereas, on a '99-04 you'd want about 4.5" of backspacing.
By running a '05 wheel on a '99-'04 SD the wheel will be tucked in more under the body due to the increased backspacing used on the '05 wheels and may cause the tires to rub on the leaf springs.
I want to put moderately agressive 35x12.50 tires (strongly leaning toward TSL TrXuS MT's) on a '05 F350 4x4 w/4" all spring lift. Would using a 17x10 4.5" backspacing wheel instead of the standard 5+" backspacing give more clearance from the radius arms for the larger diameter, fatter and larger lugged tires?
